Labor Day

Dear Members:
September 6th is Labor Day.  The first Labor Day in the United States was celebrated on September 5, 1882 in New York City.  Traditionally, Labor Day is celebrated by most Americans as the symbolic end of summer. The holiday is often regarded as a day of rest and parades. Forms of Labor Day celebrations include picnics, barbecues, fireworks displays, water sports, and public art events. Families with school-age children take it as the last chance to travel before the end of summer recess.

However, I would like to suggest that it is also a day to celebrate and recognize the millions of employees across the country that perform their duties faithfully day in and day out.  These workers are vital to sustaining our quality of life and ensuring the conveniences that we enjoy.

There are many dedicated workers involved in providing a multitude of services; unfortunately we often end up taking these persons for granted.

Won’t you please join me in expressing appreciation to the many dedicated Benton REA employees we have working for us.  Whether they are involved in repairing the power lines after a storm, or answering member questions over the phone, the employees at Benton REA are truly a dedicated, hard working bunch.  I am proud to be associated with them.

This Labor Day, let’s take a few minutes to tell folks who are working together in our behalf how much we appreciate them, and thank them for a job well done.  After all that is “THE COOPERATIVE WAY.”

Sincerely yours,
Charles Dawsey
General Manager
