Youth Tour and Youth Education

Youth Education

Benton REA is proud to take an active role in the education of our children. Professionals at Benton REA use their real world experience and knowledge to help teachers educate children about electricity. Subjects such as building a circuit, how electricity is generated and distributed, conserving energy and water and electrical safety tips are just some of the topics that Benton REA can teach in the classroom. For more information or to have Benton REA be a part of your classroom, email Benton REA.

Youth Tour in Washington D.C.

June 7-14, 2018

Applications for the 2018 Youth Tour were due October 10, 2017.

Benton REA Youth Tour LogoIf you’re a current high school sophomore or junior and looking for something fun and to do in the summer, the Rural Electric Youth Tour may be just the thing for you!  This is an all-inclusive paid trip by Benton REA and the National Rural Electric Association (NRECA).  Our delegate(s) also is provided $250 spending cash by Benton REA.

The selected individual(s) will represent Benton Rural Electric Association as its delegate(s) and will have an opportunity to participate in what has the potential of being the most exciting and memorable event in their lives. Our selected representative(s) and other students from across the state will see and experience sights and events that many people have only dreamed of seeing. It’s our goal for our selected participant to gain an appreciation of our heritage while touring our nation’s capital.

Although renowned for its marble memorials and celebrated sights, Washington, D.C. is steeped in patriotic history. You will walk in the same homes and streets of our nation’s greatest leaders and American heroes. You’ll discover national shrines, priceless works of art, world-class museums and many other treasures of our American heritage.

The tour also will provide our delegate with an opportunity to observe the inner workings of our nation’s government by visiting with our elected leaders. You will see where laws that affect millions of citizens across the country are made.

The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) plans many activities that bring you together with over 1,500 high school students from across the country. You’ll meet many new people and build friendships that can last a lifetime. And, you’ll have ample opportunity to develop your communications and leadership skills. We encourage you to step outside your comfort zone and seize this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

On behalf of Benton REA and its Board of Trustees, we’d like to extend our warm welcome to you as you apply to be our participant in the Benton REA/NRECA Youth Tour.

Eligible students must be children of Benton REA members residing in Benton or Yakima counties.  Each student will be required to submit an essay on why they want to attend and what they expect to gain from the experience.  The essay must accompany the 2018 application which was due to Benton REA on October 10, 2017.
