Scholarship and Youth Tour Applications Now Open

Youth

Benton REA is excited to announce that applications are now open for our 2025–2026 Youth Programs, including scholarships for graduating high school seniors, and Youth Tour for current sophomores and juniors. These opportunities are available to students whose parents or guardians are Benton REA members and who live in Benton, Lewis, or Yakima counties.

These programs reflect Benton REA’s commitment to investing in the next generation. By supporting students financially and providing transformational leadership experiences, we strengthen our community and help young people access pathways to education and professional growth.

Scholarships

We will award up to eight scholarships this year across three categories:

  • Academic Scholarships — Winners will receive $8,000 total, distributed over four years of post-secondary education. To apply, submit your completed application, high school transcript, a description of your involvement in school or community, and a 500-word essay with bibliography.
  • Trade & Technical Scholarships — Worth $4,000, awarded in equal installments depending on the duration of your program. These scholarships are for technical or trade school, certification programs, or Associate of Applied Science programs at approved institutions.
  • Line School Scholarship — One scholarship (valued at $8,000) will go directly to a line school chosen by the recipient. If you're pursuing a career in the electrical line industry, this is a valuable opportunity.

Youth Tour — A Trip of a Lifetime

Benton REA will choose two students to join the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour, a national leadership experience run in partnership with the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). The Youth Tour is an all-inclusive, paid summer trip, bringing together about 2,000 high school sophomores and juniors from across the U.S. It offers a unique chance to explore Washington,D.C., build lifelong friendships, and develop strong communication and leadership skills.

Visit our Youth Programs page for more information.

Deadline to apply: Monday, January 12, 2026.
